Canada MicroBlog
Canada, the northern neighbor of the USA, is vastly different in economic policies. The most important facet that impacts Canadian economy is population. The second is natural resources. Given the differences in population numbers, Canada's economic policies are manageable. The core of Canadian governmental problems lies in a similar partisan problem in the US: liberalism and conservatism. One other division is cultural: Francophiles who have often attempted succession from Canada's system of government.
Canadian government is less a "puppy of the yanks" than its sovereign country England lately. Canadians make a point of their individualism economically and systematically. Canada is a relatively new country, barely more than one hundred fifty years old. Under British rule until the early 1900's, Canada's social and economic progress faltered through recessions and financial hardships. Typically, conservatives blamed liberals while liberals blamed conservatives.
Canada's system of government is parliamentary unlike the congressional system of the US. In the parliamentary form of government, partisanship is less a factor in candidacy than political ideology. For a very small fee, a Canadian purchases a membership in the party of his/her choice which can number more than a half dozen. That way, the focus remains more on the candidate of that party than the party itself. This transcends to economic policies in the form of political ideology.
Economically, Canadians fear financial hardship given their history of austerity. The provinces of Alberta with its vast oil sands, Manitoba with its agricultural resources and British Columbia, are predominantly responsible for the rise or fall of Canadian economy. This is the difference between Canada and the US. The number of US heartland states that produce agricultural products, southern states that provide fossil fuels and hi-tech northeastern states is greater than the resources of Canada's.
Canadians cannot be accused of being totally pro-American. They possess a strong desire to remain autonomously independent. Most Canadians are fully aware of the shadow of the "super-power" they share the continent with. If there is any resentment of this, it is veiled extremely well by most Canadians.

A Reminder to Canadian Banks: More Benchmarking and Less Acquiring
